Other Information About Safety
TAXIS: Always keep taxi money with you. If you are always with another person, taking a taxi can be quite inexpensive. Normally, taxi drivers wait until you enter, but you can always ask to wait outside the door of your house or apartment until you get inside.
SUSPICIOUS PEOPLE: All of you probably have better “radar” than you are necessarily aware of. If you see someone who seems to be acting oddly, or lurking, or in other ways causing you to feel uncomfortable, cross the street or do whatever you need to do to avoid that person.
TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS. If it “feels wrong” or odd, it probably is; and even if it isn´t, better safe than sorry. If someone does approach you, trying to sell you something, etc. try NOT TO ENGAGE. Keep walking or walk away.
IF YOU ARE MUGGED, ATTACKED, ROBBED, etc. (even if it is an “unsuccessful attempt”):
If you can run away, do so
Don't try to resist, especially if the person has a weapon. It is not worth risking your life, or even your safety, for a few euros (and this is another reason why you should not carry with you anything that you are not prepared to lose!)
Call the police immediately to report the crime (even if you foiled the attempt). The sooner you report, the greater the chance that the police will be able to apprehend the perpetrator. The number to call: 112 (which you should put onto your phone as a speed dial)
Call RD or another staff member
Keep your PRESHCO card with important telephone numbers on it in a handy place. Keep at least a minimal “saldo” on your cell phone, so that you can call for emergency, taxi service or medical attention, or to contact program staff. The following numbers should be on your phone (ideally as speed-dials):
Central number for emergencies (police, fire, ambulance): 112
Police: 091 or 092
Centro de la Mujer de Córdoba: 957003400
Taxis in Córdoba: 957764444-957-450000
PideTaxi. You can download the application on your mobile phone and order a taxi.
